Members of the Devon and Torbay Combined County Authority (DTCCA) visited Teledyne Valeport in Totnes following their Board meeting on Monday 28 July 2025.

Teledyne Valeport is a locally based manufacturer of oceanographic and hydrometric equipment and instrumentation. The visit offered an opportunity to see how a globally recognised and innovative business operates from within our region.

Situated on the River Dart, the facility exemplifies the potential for growth across Devon and Torbay. The company has built a strong culture centred on customer service and global reputation, while maintaining in-house development and manufacturing.

During the visit, DTCCA Board members met the team behind the company’s research, design, and manufacturing centre. They also learned about Teledyne Valeport’s collaboration with South Hams District Council to improve transparency and public access to water quality data across some of Devon’s most treasured rivers and estuaries. This project is supported by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund in partnership with the University of Plymouth.

Councillor David Thomas, Chair of the DTCCA said:

“It’s brilliant to see the diversity of businesses across Devon and Torbay. Teledyne Valeport is a prime example of how our region can foster globally recognised brands and attract international investment. The Local Growth Plan, approved by the DTCCA Board on Monday, sets out how we will support entrepreneurship across Devon and Torbay. I look forward to seeing more businesses like Teledyne Valeport in the future.”

The DTCCA Board will continue to visit businesses across the region to highlight and promote the wide range of sectors and enterprises that contribute to the local economy.
